This was a great year for Tag Teams. The War Raiders, New Day, The Usos (who are really great), The Young Bucks, and Mustache Mountain are all great, but it has to be The Undisputed Era. They had great matches all the time, even when Bobby Fish wasn't around!
Second has to be The Bucks, as they're so good and when they're the movers and shakers in AEW they'll be a bigger deal. Third? I'll go with Mustache Mountain. Good times! This was a no-brainer for me. As much as Charlotte-Becky was great, and KO (Kenny Omega) vs. KO (Katsuchika Okada) are both great, but I can't think of a feud that was more brilliantly paced, and did more to get the guys over than the NXT headline feud. These two are so good, and the matches they had were some of the best of the year. Rewatch the three big matches and you'll see how incredible both these guys are, and why Ciampa is the best heel working today.
Was there any question? I can't think of a rookie in years who has taken to the sport as quickly. Yes, she was a fighter before, but the part of 'rasslin' she's proving to be best at is making her opponent look good through her selling, and especially her ability to make a comeback look legit. Her offense is good, but her storytelling, and especially her facials, are phenomenal. It really reminds me of first year Kurt Angle. She's still got some room to grow. Her promos are good, largely because of her natural charisma, but they'll get better. She's got a lot of wonderful talent, and she's just gettign rolling. They went a completely different direction with her than they did with Brock Lesnar, and it's working.
There were a bunch of great big shows last year, and about five fought it out for this one! WWE had Evolution, and there was the Tokyo Dome, and then the wonderful show where Kenny Omega won his IWGP strap. Of course, there was All In. It really came down to the across the board elements. TLC had an amazing main event, and the AJ vs. Bryan match that was just about the best male match the WWE had all year. The entire show was great.
Evolution and All In are basically tied. They were both excellent examples of shows that proved what people internally (in various different companies/countries) have been saying for years. The only thing that comes close to the same feeling is the first ECW PPV of the WWE era. |
